About Kathleen Liston, Architect

Moderna Homes is the residential architecture practice of Kathleen Liston, a licensed architect based in Menlo Park, California. She designs modern custom homes, remodels and additions that suit their site, their budget, and the way the family lives.

Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame, and an MS in Structural Engineering and a PhD in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. She co-authored the BIM Handbook. Before founding Moderna Homes, she founded Common Point Technologies, which was acquired by Bentley Systems, and led construction products at Autodesk.

She has also built homes as a licensed general contractor. That construction experience shapes her design work: she knows what details cost and how they get built, so her clients get fewer surprises once construction starts.

How We Work

Every project is modeled in 3D (BIM) before it is built. This lets you see the design, compare options, and catch cost and coordination problems early, from concept through construction.

We work closely with consultants and specialty contractors, from interior designers to HVAC and audio/video specialists. Today's homes integrate many systems, and how a home performs, from heating and cooling to daylight and lighting, matters as much as how it looks.
